Hello! My name is Dal, it's good to meet you all; character-wise, I'm going to be bringing you Lysandre from Pokémon XY! For those who are canon-familiar, he's taken from Y version, as it's less of a logicbomb and general mess all around plot-wise; for those who are not...ahahahaha oh boy.

Lysandre comes from a long line of freakishly tall nobility, as he's directly descended from one of the princes of Kalos from way back in the day; however, he's got the benefit of being Royalty That Actually Does Something. He's a former trainer (as in the obtain-Dex-get-companion-go-out-into-the-world-try-to-catch-'em-all sort of trainer), though if he's asked about it he'll say that he's found it doesn't suit his lifestyle and he doesn't travel like that anymore; since then, he's studied under the most esteemed Professor in the region, and nowadays he runs his own labs that specialize in experimental research and technology. When he's not doing things like literally inventing hologram technology for kicks, he runs a café in his spare time, because clearly we can't go five minutes without a reminder that this is supposed to be PokéFrance; he's also in charge of an organization known as Team Flare, which specializes in acts of terrorism, grand larceny, having really questionable fashion sense, generally annoying the hell out of the region, and aspiring to commit mass genocide in the name of beauty, "mercy", and a healthy sense of why the hell not.

...yeah.

Well, in fairness it comes with the caveat that it can't spit fire, which is going to be immensely confusing for it for a while, but. C'est la vie and all that.

I mean at least now the thing's mane can presumably be touched without burning your hands off, but that's another story entirely; it just isn't quite the same unless you can use your lion as a flamethrower.

HELLO THERE. I have only played X (and in fact beat Lysandre's French butt last night) so I am not sure what the differences from Y are, but I trust he's somewhat like his otherself?

XY spoilers - endgame

Ah, there are actually reasonably few personality differences until the very end; the main difference is more plot-based and somewhat akin to the differences between Ruby and Sapphire versions - there are some things that just make more sense in one version than they do the other. His goal in Y (use the weapon to draw out and amplify the powers of Yveltal, which is pretty much a deathgod, in order to wipe out most of humanity) is more straightforward and just...generally seems more coherent and doable than they do in X (use the powers of Xerneas to make Team Flare live forever and then...some...thing????? everyone is going to die somehow just trust us on this). In Y he's a bit more fixated on destruction than he is immortality, though he does cite the beauty obsession as the reason for his actions in both instances; in X he seems more fixated on preserving the beautiful things by making them last forever, while in Y it's more that he wants to preserve them by destroying everything that would taint them, because I swear to god Team Flare's boss is Kalos' worst-kept secret.

The very end is also different as a result of this; the "let us live forever! and then you will see that I was right and everyone is stupid and the world is killing itself etc etc etc" speech is replaced by the statement that the ultimate weapon bloomed above the soil to no avail, there's an awkward comparison to Lysandre's entire life in there somewhere, and he pretty much decides to just pull the trigger in a bid to kill himself and everyone else in the building. It's kind of...yeah, but it seems more in-line with his previous behavior of being self-loathing and blind to his own successes/fixated on his failures.

HOWEVER he is not from that...rather hideous point just yet, as far as canon point goes, so we will see how it rolls.

...ALSO THIS IS COMPLETELY UNRELATED BUT you have no idea how excited I am to see Jumba in this game, man alive.

Dude, I am excite to see Lysandre. I'm very fond of him as a leader and of his ridiculous fashion disaster minions. And that stuff about the Y plot is pretty cool too and yeah, that does make a little more sense.
