Mock Trial OOC Mingle!

Hello, lovelies, and welcome to DRRP's second annual Mock Trial! Congratulations on surviving the reserveucopia! We have an entire crop of newbies this cycle and all three of us mods are ecstatic to have you.

At some point today (4/21) the IC mingle post will be going up in the main comm (danganroleplay ). If you have any questions in regards to the game please feel free to hit up the mod plurk (monomods ) or one of our personals (resplendentri , winterbolt and frickninja) and have a look at our last official round's FAQ for how the game/trial mechanics work! The mock trial investigation will be going up Friday, April 24th between 12 pm and 2 pm EST and the trial will be posted Saturday April 25th between 12 pm and 2 pm EST barring any OOC circumstances that might delay them.

In the meantime feel free to use this post to get to know your fellow tributes students and introduce yourselves. Make friends and then suffer gleefully as you wait to see if they'll end up going to the big murder train in the sky! That's the name of the game after all!

I should have gotten up at 9:30 instead of looking at the clock and going back to sleep, because now I'm late :(

This guy is Ulysses, the main character from a sci-fi cartoon from 1981 called Ulysses 31 that no one's ever heard of. (It was actually Dic's first cartoon, with Mysterious Cities of Gold being the second and Inspector Gadget being the third, if I remember correctly. And now you know!)

The show is pretty much "The Odyssey IN SPACE!", although thankfully Ulysses is not nearly as much of a dick as Odysseus. He's not very emotional, other than being pretty physically affectionate. (See icon. If this was a real round, everyone who's not a total dick would probably get a hug at some point. You still might get hugged.) He also has the determination of a shounen protagonist, so there's that.

(Oh and he has a smidgen of divine blood if your character can detect that sort of thing! I don't think it'll come up because power nerfs probably, but you never know.)

Also if there's some unwritten rule about writing in [brackets] style please tell me because prose is much more natural for me and I'll probably just write in that otherwise. (And if there is I'll probably still slip up and have to edit.)

Ulysses will try to help Tiana out in the kitchen if she lets him. He's no restaurant chef but he knows some things (totally headcanoning that he learned to cook in order to court Penelope, meals made by robots just aren't romantic), and it's not fair if she slaves over a hot stove for the rest of them :(

I wasn't even born when that show came out, but I do remember watching and loving Inspector Gadget.

Personally I'm totally fine with prose, and I can easily switch to that if that's what you're more comfortable with. The way I write him, Duster thinks more than he speaks, so I can easily switch to that format.

On the topic of CR, Duster would love being around one of the very few decent people here, especially someone like Ulysses, who might be a bit of a not-terrible father figure to him (though I'm not sure how old Ulysses is compared to Duster).

My headcanon age for Ulysses is 37. The number I pulled out of nowhere, but the 35-40 age range I figured because he's old enough to have a 12-year-old son, and to have gathered a lot of respect, but he doesn't really have any noticeable wrinkles yet. But yes, he will Dad all over the place.

I don't know if I could watch all those episodes myself. But Inspector Gadget would be amazing.

I headcanon Duster to be in his mid-late twenties, so it'll be more of Ulysses replacing Flint, who's the protagonist's manly cowboy dad and is pretty cool before things go bad.

But Duster needs someone to stand up for him since the only time he defends himself is during physical combat. With all these terrible people after him, he's going to look for someone he can hang out with safely.

Thankfully most of them are pretty much the same characterization-wise.

Ulysses is all about standing up for people, so no worries :)

Duster wants to stand up for the common folk, but while he definitely has the means to do that, he doesn't exactly have the backbone.

He's more about calculated risks than leap before you look, but he could definitely keep up with them.

Maybe with some encouragement + leading by example?

Duster'll find some other ways besides fighting to inspire the people. But encouragement is always welcome, though Ulysses won't be able to make much progress during the mock trial.

I don't think there's any rule about format! If you're more comfortable in prose, go ahead and write in prose, I'm sure nobody will mind even if they stick to writing in brackets.

Also hot damn that show looks like everything I am about. I'm really excited to play with you and Ulysses! His stache is very friendly looking.

As a bit of warning if you check it out, it is a kid's show, so there are some silly moments, mainly from the comic relief character. (And then the comic relief character gets a really sad episode near the end.) But it's the mature kind of kid's show that doesn't pull many punches thematically, so while there are child protagonists and no blood or much kissing (there's some platonic kissing because France), there's murder and slavery and tyranny and other dark stuff all over the place.

That's not just a stache, friend, we're talking full beard here :) But yes, it is very friendly and so is Ulysses. Unless you're a god or a tyrant, he's not fond of those.

It's okay, in Ulysses' view most gods are tyrants by nature anyway. (I kind of want him to get into a game with an actual decent god character like Thor or something so he can B| at them. His experiences have made him a total god-racist. Antitheist?)

Echoing the fact that most people shouldn't mind prose at all even if they use brackets (I'll probably do that myself because brackets are just easier for me but I don't mind prose stuff at all!) It's nice to meet you! Ulysses sounds pretty cool.
