the mastermind meme

You asked for it, we're
What does this mean exactly? It means your character is the one responsible for everything! They've been controlling Monobear from the shadows (or maybe they have an assistant to help them, possibly even one of your classmates!), they've been putting forth the motives, running the trials, all of it! And now they've finally chosen to reveal themselves and their true motives.
What are their motives? Why do they want to spread despair? Are they somehow connected to the late Junko Enoshima? And most importantly what is their snazzy Monobear-themed look like? You decide!
Threading reactions is highly encouraged and feel free to AU things up to mix up our current survivor pool as much as you'd like.

i figured i may as well as long as i'm spamming you
So she never makes that play.
So she never dies.
This time around. It's hard to say how many times he killed her, or how many times she suggested it.
It's safe to say that Aradia never suspected any of this throughout their stay on the island. When John had killed himself - or, well, apparently faked that, because wow - she'd actually been...upset. She'd to Roxy after that, and worried about how it would effect the timeline back home, and...well, she'd just missed him. It had been weird to investigate his death, because up to that point they'd always investigated something together every time, and she'd gotten used to his derails at trials.
...
For about a second she's really happy to see him. Not even that much; just the split second of "oh it's John" before what John is wearing and that grin filters into being registered, and...
John Egbert?
Really?
There are no words.
Is he holding a doll with her horns. ]
gomen for all the edits. i had a retcon revalation
[He was the murderer. It was him.]
[And it had given him thirteen cracks in his psyche (some deeper than others) that had only gotten progressively worse with time.]
[He'd seen how upset she was after he'd "died", of course. Or should he say after his looped self had died. For John Egbert really had died that day, but it was neither a suicide nor was it the John Egbert that stood before them now.]
[Retcon powers are tricky things like that. They leave no doomed duplicates but they don't always necesarily ensure a stable loop. And there can't be two John Egberts in this reality, no sir. We can't have that.]
[This John had watched everything from behind the safety of his metaphorical curtain, coming out only to dispose of his duplicate (till now, at least). He'd watched Aradia after the fourth trial, he'd seen how hurt she was. But he was too far dead inside at that point to feel anything about it other than despair. A despair he sincerely hoped she was feeling at well at that very same moment. A despair he hoped they would all feel.]
[But that was then and this is now. Aradia might not have any words for John, but he apparently at least has a greeting. He holds up his Lovely Assistant, his left hand re-positioning itself a little so that he can make her wave a floppy, stuffed appendage at Aradia.]
It's been a while!
...*stuck to roxy, wtf self
Aradia's. Not sure how to react here, normally she is all about creeping people out (although she doesn't usually do it to mess with people, she's been known to do it to mess with people) but this is taking it a little far.
Especially because she's still having trouble making the connection between SHSL Despair and John Egbert.
If this were Vriska or something she'd have a much easier time of making the leap of logic necessary to accept it, but somehow it's just...difficult. To picture John as the end to this equation.
If she knew about the loops, it'd make more sense. ]
It has.
[ Somehow her voice is a lot calmer than her mind, but Aradia's at least quick on her feet if nothing else. ]
The last time I saw you was when I investigated your body.
i legit did not even notice
Ohhh, it's been much longer than you think! This is the first I have seen you in person in...hmmm... [He taps his chin, thinking. Time loops complicate so much.] We've been playing this game for how long now? Eight weeks? Nine? And then add probably at least a week's worth of loops and other assorted adventures onto that. It's always so hard to tell when you're stuck in those, I'm sure you know the feeling. Maybe it was even more than that, hell if I know at this point!
[He laughs wildly.]
But suffice it to say, it has been a very, very long time for me! Almost too long! I've missed you, you know...
i only noticed after you commented
There's very real surprise when she hears that, although she knows John has some sort of time-travel capability. He's...been looping to mastermind the game? She can't even ascribe a time-player necessity to this course of action, because he isn't one, so that can't be the case. Paradox space can't touch his version of time travel.
She's pretty sure of that, if nothing else. ]
I've never lost track of time when looping. [ That's not at all addressing his missing her, because she's not sure how to react to that.
First things first: figure out what's going on. ] Why are you looping?
1/??
Well technically I am not looping anymore, and haven't been for nearly two months now! But the reason I am looping would beeeeeee...
2/we're still not sure
3/looks like 5
4/yes, 5
5/5 i'm slightly sorry
Spoilers!
[Did you really think he was going to give up all the answers right up front like that? Shame on you if so, Aradia.]
no you're not
...Always assuming Crazy John wasn't lying his ass off, which it should be noted is a distinct possibility.
It's too bad killing the mastermind is against school rules, because "Spoilers" has never been a particularly helpful answer. ]
...If you're not going to give us any new information, I'd prefer to get on with the trial.
[ NOT ADDRESSING YOUR PARTICULAR BRAND OF CRAZY AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME, THANKS. It's not like she can always talk or like she wasn't teammates with crazy people. She can ignore this and focus on the main thing, which is...
...oh wow, the main thing is probably winning a trial against John. That's not a nice thought, but at least she was already used to the idea of him being dead. If they can swing this at all. ]
i am slightly sorry for the [...] one but i wanted to do a nice rounded 5/5
[He turns the doll back around to face him, now addressing it instead of Aradia herself.]
She's so cold, isn't she? When did that happen, I wonder? Hm??
[He is...apparently listening to the doll now. She holds secrets I guess? Or maybe it's just because John is absolutely coocoo for cocoa puffs at this point. Because the dool sure isn't actually saying anything.]
You're right. Of course you're right, you always are! It doesn't matter. [He hugs the sheep tightly before lowering her down to sit on the podium in front of him.]
We have a show to wrap up here don't we!!? Hehehehe. So let's get to it, shall we? I've got despair to spread and I don't have all day you know!
[John you are actually the worst mastermind ever what are you even doing. That being said it...might be sort of easy to get him to slip up and spill more than he should? Hell, he's already admitted to looping.]
you are not
[ Because right now you seem focused on your doll and also she's pretty sure you want them all dead.
You know, because...despair.
That reasoning never made full sense to her, but she accepted it because not everything in her own universe made sense, either. ]
What are you going to do after this, then?
no i really do feel a little bad I JUST WANTED IT TO BE A NICE ROUNDED 5 /WAILS
[He doesn't know what he wants, okay? John was quite possibly one of the worst people to have give into despair, he has none of Junko's focus. He's just a scrambling, directionless loose cannon.]
Mmmm...good question! I haven't really thought that far ahead but...I think I might go back to our world and spread despair there too!
[See? he has no concrete plan for how he's going to accomplish this. He's just going to do it. Somehow...]
Ooooo yes I like the sound of that! It'll be so easy too, I think. Just a little prodding here and there... Everyone will come falling down like a house of cards!
WELL OKAY THEN
Hell, they wouldn't even take that much prodding, would they? Murdering one another was like their team skill. Which Aradia didn't usually like to talk about, but...it was definitely a thing that was a thing. The meteor trip had only required Gamzee going off sopor, in the end, although there'd been more going on, too.
...It's easy to picture their home falling down like John somehow did. And while she'd said she wanted to see what happened when everything blew up...
Aradia hadn't meant this, she didn't think. ]
Why despair?
[ ...She'd just...kind of like to know. ]
no subject
No matter how hard you try, you can't stop despair from spreading. And there's no other explanation for why that would be, other than that it has to be the state the universe wants to be in.
Get it?
no subject
Is John suggesting Despair is paradox space? ]
I don't think that's necessarily true. Perhaps certain things were meant to happen, but I don't think that means that the universe requires those same things to happen everywhere?
